WTFlocka?! Jerry West, Lakers legend, isn’t feeling the defense that the Lakers are playing and he would put money on the Celtics before the Lakers. He says, “I think Boston is a very dangerous team. I would not want to play them every other night.”
What does Phil Jackson have to say about this? “He’s right,” Jackson said with a humble smile after Sunday’s practice when West’s comments were relayed to him. “We have to do a lot of things right to play defense the way we want to. Most of it is about controlling the tempo of the game. Some of it is about speed and outright speed. We’re not the fastest team on the boards. We can do it if we control things the right way.”
And West had more concerns about the Lakers than just their defense. He even compared the Lakers strength to a car, “I don’t think the Lakers will be good for much longer. You can keep a car running for a long time by changing the tires, etc. You can’t change a player’s tires.”
Five of the 17 championships were won by the Phil Jackson-coached Lakers. Even if the Lakers don’t win another championship the Lakers still have 17 championships under their belt, and that’s pretty legendary in the GN$F! books. The most vital thing that Kobe Bryant’s teammates need to understand is to play some hard defense if they want Kobe’s high scores to count against their opponents.
